On Wednesday, May 16, 2012 Merrill Elam will participate in a panel discussion at the High Museum of Art Atlanta entitled “Atlanta Embraces Modernism.”

Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects was awarded the National Design Award in Architecture from the The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. The Architecture Design Award is given to an individual or firm for exceptional and exemplary work in public, commercial, or residential architectural design.

Merrill Elam is scheduled to speak at the RISK: Present Predicaments in Architecture and Urban Planning Conference at University of Michigan Taubman College. The event takes place on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Rackham Auditorium.

Mack Scogin is scheduled to participate in a discussion with David Adjaye at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 7pm. The event is part of the Hammer Conversations series and will take place in the Billy Wilder Theater.

Mack Scogin is scheduled to give a lecture on February 22, 2012 at 4:30pm at the University of Cincinnati Arnoff Center (DAAP), room 4400. The event is sponsored by the Student Society of the School of Architecture and Interior Design.

Merrill Elam will be speaking at North Carolina State University on November 21, 2011. The event will take place at 6 pm at the Burns Auditorium / Kamphoefner Hall. The event is part of the School of Architecture | AIA Triangle Joint Lecture Series.

Mack Scogin will be speaking at The City College of New York / CUNY on November 17, 2011. The event will take place in the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture Sciame Auditorium located at 141 Convent Avenue (at W. 135th Street) at 6:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Merrill Elam will be speaking at the University of California, Berkeley on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. The event will take place at 112 Wurster Hall at 7:30 pm. The event is co-sponsored by the East Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Merrill Elam will be speaking at Mississippi Celebrates Architecture at the Mississippi War Memorial Building in Jackson, Mississippi this Thursday March 31, 2011. The event is sponsored by AIA Mississippi.

Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam have been awarded the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture, an award given to a preeminent architect from any country who has made a significant contribution to architecture as an art.

Merrill Elam will be lecturing on October 18, 2010 in Room 153 of Campbell Hall at the University of Virginia School of Architecture. The event will begin at 5:30 pm.

Merrill Elam has been named the University of Virginia Shure Professor. She will be teaching a workshop in the graduate level studio at the School of Architecture for the 2010 fall term.

Merrill Elam will lecture at the 2010 AIA Tennessee Convention and Expo on August 5, 2010. The Tennessee Convention and Expo event is located at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Mack Scogin will be moderating a discussion with John Portman and Jack Portman on April 6, 2010 in Piper Auditorium at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. The event has been rescheduled from February 10; it was postponed due to inclement weather.

Mack Scogin will participate in a discussion with Alejandro Zaera-Polo on March 13, 2010 at the Georgia Institute of Technology as part of the Imagining a Better Future Symposium. The topic is “The Future as a Value / Commodity in the Present.”

Merrill Elam will lecture at Otis College of Art and Design in the Forum of Kathleen Ahmanson Hall on February 18, 2010.

Merrill Elam will lecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on February 3, 2010. The lecture will include the recently completed Gates Center for Computer Science and the Hillman Center for Future-Generation Technologies at Carnegie Mellon University as well as the Yale University Health Services Building currently under construction in New Haven, Connecticut.

On January 25, 2010 Merrill Elam will present the film On Imagination: Conversations with Architects as part of the Georgia Institute of Technology Symposium 2010: Imaging a Better Future. On Imagination: Conversations with Architects is a one hundred five minute film probing the illusive, ephemeral and undefinable capacity of the imagination

Mack Scogin will lecture at Southern California Institute of Architecture on November 18, 2009. The lecture is titled, “Mack Scogin: The Anxiety of Difference.” A video of the lecture will be available on SCI-Arc’s website under “Lectures.”

Merrill Elam will be speaking at the upcoming design conference, “Central States Region AIA Iowa Convention” on October 16, 2009 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Merrill Elam will lecture at University of Buffalo on September 30, 2009. The lecture will focus on the libraries designed by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects since the 1980s and will also feature the recently completed Gates Center for Computer Science and the Hillman Center for Future-Generation Technologies at Carnegie Mellon University.

Merrill Elam will give a lecture at Clemson University on 10 April 2009.

Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam will give a lecture at Georgia Institute of Technology as part the College of Architecture’s Architecture Centennial Lecture Series. The lecture is scheduled for 10 September 2008 at 6:00 pm.

Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam have been awarded the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) International Fellowship. Their fellowships will be presented 12 February 2007 at the RIBA in London.
