Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam Design Talk at Cooper-Hewitt Design Center

Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam are giving a Design Talk in association with the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Museum and the National Design Awards program. Joining them are artist Clifford Ross and Judge Andrew Austin, who were both collaborators on the recently completed United States Courthouse project in Austin, Texas. It will take place at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Center, located at 111 Central Park North, New York, NY 10025, on Wednesday, May 29 at from 6:30-8:00 pm. The Design Talk series, sponsored in part by the Adobe Foundation, encourages conversations on a variety of design related issues. The event is open to the public and tickets may be purchased online. On Imagination: Conversations with Architects, Two Film Screenings with Merrill Elam

Merrill Elam is presenting “On Imagination: Conversations with Architects,” in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This 90-minute video looks at imagination through the musings of some of today’s most creative architects. Both events are free and open to the public. The first screening is in association with AIA Wisconsin on Thursday March 14, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center at 1 John Nolen Drive, Madison, WI 53703. These lectures are sponsored by AIA Southwest Wisconsin, Frank Lloyd Wright Wisconsin, Friends of Monona Terrace and a grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission, with additional funds from the Overture Foundation. The second will be presented in association with AIA Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and will take place on Friday March, 15, 2013 at 6:30 pm at the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning Building, Room 170, located at 2131 E. Hartford Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53211.

Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects Accepts National Design Award for Architecture Design

Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam accepted the award at the 13th annual National Design Awards Gala at Pier Sixty in New York on October 17. The gala was attended by artists, fashion designers, graphic designers, architects and numerous other design enthusiasts.

The event took place in the middle of National Design Week, from October 13-21. Launched in 2006, National Design Week sponsors educational programs for students, professionals and the general public that demonstrate the importance of design in our society and everyday life. The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum sponsors events across the country including the National Design Awards Program, teen design fairs, lectures, seminars, studio tours and film screenings among others.

Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects was awarded the 2012 AIA Atlanta Silver Medal Award at “Build Something Great,” an event sponsored by Cosmos Granite and Marble, Manhattan Construction and Uzun and Case Engineers. The award is given in recognition of commitment to national and international design excellence, excellence in client service, and for dedication toward mentoring young architects in collaborative and innovative ways. The ceremony was held on October 18, 2012 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Academy of Medicine at 875 W. Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA, 30308.
